The King's Theatre is a treasured piece of Edinburgh history and still a bustling home to popular stage entertainment, staging quality touring drama, kids' shows and Scotland's No.1 panto.
The King's is home for West End drama and quality touring theatre, ensuring local audiences have the chance to see some of the UK’s most prolific actors and best touring productions on home turf. Over the years the King’s has played host to some of the world’s biggest stars of screen and stage, including Sir Laurence Olivier, Maria Callas, Lesley Neilsen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Penelope Keith, Simon Callow – and Sir Sean Connery even worked backstage here.

On foot
(From Princes Street) The King’s Theatre is in the Tollcross area of the city, on Leven Street. To walk from Princes Street, turn up Lothian Road, the main road leading south of Princes Street at the west end (the Caledonian Hilton Hotel is on the corner of Princes Stree and Lothian Road.) At the very top of Lothian Road, there is a large junction, with three forks (known as Tollcross) – take the right hand fork. The King’s Theatre is on the left hand side of the main road, about a two-minute walk from the junction. The King’s is approximately 15 minutes walk from the west end of Princes Street.
By bus
The King’s Theatre is in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh. The main Lothian bus routes that serve the King’s Theatre are: 10, 11, 15, 15a, 16, 23, 27, 45. Find the route that best suits you with the Lothian Buses Journey Planner.
By road
(From the west end of Princes Street) Turn right up Lothian Road at the Caledonian Hilton Hotel. At the very top of Lothian Road, there is a large junction, with three forks (known as Tollcross), take the right hand fork. The King’s Theatre is on the left hand side of the main road about 500m from the Tollcross junction. The only parking available in the immediate vicinity of the King’s Theatre is street parking. There’s an underground car park off Riego St and there is an NCP car park about 15 minutes walk from the theatre, towards Princes Street, on Castle Terrace (24 hours, 7 days). By train
The nearest rail station to the King’s Theatre is Haymarket, however to get to the theatre from a rail station it is easier to use Waverley Station and a local bus.
